WattShed Footprint
Live, self-serveWhat the saved energy kept out of the air.
Footprint does the conversion every sustainability report needs and most spreadsheets do loosely: saved kilowatt hours into avoided CO2e, using the published EPA eGRID factor for the grid region the savings happened in. The factor's vintage sits on the result, because grid mix changes yearly, and the convention is a stated choice: the non-baseload rate EPA points to for avoided-emissions estimates, or the total-output inventory rate. The output is an estimate for reporting context, not a certified offset, not a credit, and nothing tradable.
What it does.
Converts an annual savings figure into avoided pounds and metric tons of CO2e for a chosen eGRID subregion.
Uses published EPA eGRID factors, bundled with their vintage and source stated, never a live guess.
Makes the convention explicit: non-baseload for avoided-savings framing, total-output for inventory framing.
Shows the full factor table it computes from, so every number is inspectable.
Runs in the browser. Bring the savings figure from Measure or your own measurement.
Who it is for.
Sustainability and reporting teams
Put a defensible avoided-emissions line next to the savings line, with the factor and vintage attached.
Utilities and public program administrators
Report program emissions impact in the convention a commission or grant actually expects.
Funders making public commitments
State what a program kept out of the air without borrowing anyone's marketing math.
How it works.
Bring the savings
An annual kWh figure from the measured savings check or your own measurement.
Pick region and convention
The eGRID subregion the homes sit in, and the convention the report calls for.
Report with the factor attached
Avoided pounds and metric tons of CO2e, with the factor, vintage, and convention on the result.
What it does, and what it deliberately does not.
Footprint does
Converts savings with published, cited, vintage-labeled factors
Footprint does not
Does not produce offsets, credits, or anything tradable
Footprint does
States its convention and shows its factor table
Footprint does not
Does not estimate factors or fill gaps the source does not publish

The avoided-emissions check is live today as a public self-serve tool, no account required. Emissions reporting wired to a live program's verified savings is arranged with WattShed directly.
